It’s May 7th; the weather… rather dingy.
“What’s an active pup to do on days like this? This is my pup, Nico.
I call this picture “Nico Teddy.”
“What’s a writer supposed to do on days like this?”
My herb patch is peaking trying to get a glimmer of the stingy sunshine. The rhubarb is just crowning.
No buds whatsoever on the apple tree, though the squirrel has spring-cleaned it’s drey with perfumed sprigs of fresh cedars, along with cushioning of fluff and feathers.
The avian community seems to be a bit confused since it did snow after construction of their new nests.
They were not up at 4.30 in the morning all ready to chirp.
With the dull weather the sky is not filled with them in flight over the wetlands in all directions. They are not in a hurry to go anywhere. It’s quiet outside.
The red-crested grebe is nesting at the harbour, but no sight of swans ready to build their nests.
It’s that time of the year again, or is it? I can’t understand it either.
The summer visitors have already taken residency in my backyard. The Red Cardinals religiously made their pilgrimage back to the cedars again.
The Grackles and the Red-Winged Blackbirds are having bird issues, bickering over sites as usual.
The Robin has gotten a head start on the crab apple tree in the front yard. Do you see the Robin in the nest?
Once again this spring as I look outside into my backyard of unending bustling noisy surrounding, I see yet again the somewhat late arrival of warm weather.
Followed, by a harbinger of renewal, new life and positive energy. Everything will be sunshiny and great.
As we all gather to celebrate our mothers and mother figures in our lives, let’s not forget mother nature, the mother of all beings on this mother’s day.
Just like the mums who do not give up on their children; Magna Mater does her job, sustaining and showering her occupants, her children, with love. She is always giving.
Let her profusion of flora and fauna envelope your senses.
Happy Mother’s Day!
