Some of us just can’t sit still for more than a few minutes. And I must confess that I’m one of them. Always fiddling around with something. I’ve my duties as a mom, wife, I’m promoting and marketing my books and services, not to mention writing all the time. For a clean freak my house remains squeaky clean but I can’t say the same about my lawn. This past summer my husband and I started our own travel agency. Lots of studying to be TICO certified and continuous learning with the ever changing travel industry.

I’m still keeping up with French and I must say I’ve improved a lot. On top of the chauffeuring, cooking world class cuisines and secretaring…

I just had to do it. I got a puppy.

"C'est

As I’ve mentioned in my earlier postings my son has Brachial Plexus Injury to his right hand. I asked him if we wanted a service dog, but he was unsure. I called up Dog Guides and spoke to a lovely lady who was unaware as to what BPI is. She said, “well, your son may not get a guide dog.”

…And since this was a grey area I just decided to put in my own application to foster a puppy. The speed at which I got this adorable Golden Lab is incredible.

It just so happened that another family had had him for three days before abandoning him. He was the last one left in the “I” litter. What? No one wanted to take him home. I wonder if it had anything to do with his name. The Lions Foundation named his Isarym. Haven’t a clue where this name is from.

I house-trained him in about three days, being ever so vigilante… carrying him outside every two hours. We did have a few minor incidents but he is a puppy so he could get away with it. At eleven weeks old this week it’s strictly a no, no to go potty in the house. He sleeps through the night in his crate; waking up with me be it five in the morning or six thirty in the morning.

So, since I had everything under control you may wonder what was slowing me down.

Need I spell it out to you?

It’s not the dog walking and taking care of the puppy but the playing and catching up with the neighbors and strangers and chatting. I’ve had strangers approach me on the street and waterfront just to pat “Izzy” – that’ s my puppy’s nickname. He wasn’t even responding to Isarym when we got him at eight weeks. Izzy and I have met Charlie, Finn, Jake, Muffy, Bella, Zena, Titan, Patsy, Ariel, and the list of doggies and dog owners goes on. One hour of walking or playing and another good hour of catching up on what Izzy has been up to.

He’s very social with people and animals. He loves to chase squirrels, but he just can’t understand why they won’t stay and play with him, instead of running up a tree. Ahh… the sad face he has when another dog won’t play with him just breaks my heart.

… So just when everything was under control and I had some time to smell the roses, someone decides to do a 3-point turn or a U-turn onto my car on a two lane street. The other driver’s excuse was that his windows were misty and he did not see my Huge, Red, Bold, Dodge Charger. “WTF …, are you kidding me?” It’s so obvious that something was going on with this driver.

My car was spun onto the opposite lane and everything I learned at Young Drivers just kicked in.

I didn’t immediately hit the brakes. I actually maneuvered my car to safety by avoiding ending up in the ditch, avoiding streetlights and avoiding street signs.

My guardian angels must have been watching over me because at 8AM in the morning that particular stretch of the street is buzzing with cyclists, kids walking to school, people walking their dogs and oncoming traffic. And I was coming home after dropping off my son at school. It was the Tuesday after the long Thanksgiving weekend, I was going to come home and dye my hair, take breakfast and take Izzy out for a play/walk.

Both lanes were empty except for my car and the other driver’s car, which prompted me to actually ask the other driver if he did it on purpose. Not a hint of fog in the air. It was a crystal clear, crisp fall morning and I was rather enjoying my ride, doing 50 kmp on a 50 km street.

Later, I got out of my car and signaled the other driver to come over. It’s so funny now that I think about it but I can only imagine what could have happened.

The other driver assumed all responsibility and my car is being repaired. He was also charged.

I’m driving a Sonata rental which will do for now. Can’t wait to get my Charger back.

Enjoy the pictures of my little cutey who is getting bigger everyday.

"It's

It’s my treadmill now.

My only complaint with him is that he is still mouthy with me. Loves to bite my fingers, hands, robes and pants.

When life throws you a curve ball; take the bull by the horns and enjoy the ride.

What else can you do?
