Planning is of critical importance. Be it for three months or a year, but put together a plan and stick to it if you want to see your book printed and succeed as a serious author.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve become a pro at weeding out people who call me on a fishing expedition. What do you tell someone who calls you up saying they want t be a writer overnight? Write, write and write. Learn continuously and be open to new ideas. \u00a0 Then again the serious ones are the ones with the deadlines looking for illustrators, cover designs, ISBNs and printers.<\/p>\n

Call me or e-mail me when you are ready. You don\u2019t have time to waste; neither do I.<\/p>\n

This brings me to a story about a woman who called me at 9.30PM a few months ago. She said she had seen my article on the local magazine and wanted to publish a book herself. After repeatedly asking her how I could help her I realized this woman was going on a rant about how the whole world was out to get her. She said she was in her 60\u2019s and people were jealous of her achievements. If I were not a nice person I would have hung up on her but I\u2019m not. I\u2019m polite and courteous so I had to listen to her for one and a half hours. She probably just needed a shoulder to cry on and my face on the magazine probably caught her eyes. I may do it differently if she calls back again.<\/p>\n
